Pedretti Power Yoga offers a wide variety of Power Vinyasa Yoga classes. The majority of our classes are performed in a heated studio, so be prepared and bring a towel, a bottle of water and an open mind.
Can beginners attend classes?
PPY welcomes beginners - our classes are open to all levels. We encourage beginners to pace themselves and trust their own bodies. The benefits of yoga do not occur overnight but the results are long-lasting. In time you'll build strength, focus, endurance and flexibility. Modifications and variations of poses are shown in all of our classes. You work to your own potential by using breath and body to still your mind.
Will I be able to handle the 90 degree heated Yoga Studio?
It is not unusual to feel nauseous or dizzy during your first class. Practicing yoga in a heated room reveals to us our present condition, and inspires us take much better care of ourselves.
Usually the problem is that we do not drink enough water for daily living, let alone for exercising in a heated room. Nutritionists tell us that we need 64-80 ounces of water a day to help the body function properly. In the heated yoga room, your body needs adequate fund of water to allow perspiration to release heat from the body as you practice. Once you are drinking enough water your body will tolerate the heat better and you will actually enjoy the heat.
If you feel disoriented or like you need a good nap after your first few classes, this is likely because your body has begun to cleanse itself as a result of the yoga practice. Don't be scared. After the first few classes this sensation will pass. The more you can relax as you give your 110% honest effort during class, the more energized you will feel throughout the class and throughout the rest of your day.
Will class be difficult for me?
Yes. But you determine the intensity with which you work in each pose and throughout the process. Your first few classes may be hard. No matter what your age or experience level, this yoga will take you to your edge-and pull more out of you than you ever thought feasible.
How often should I practice?
Successful yoga practice requires control and wisdom. Consistency is the key to success and will create transformation over time. If you want to transform your body, you should practice 3 times per week. For life-changing results practice 4-6 days per week.
~Your body is the best home your mind will ever have, and it is the only one you get.
What if I'm not that flexible?
We encourage you to develop a flexible mind. You don't need to be physically flexible. All you need is to focus on letting go, sweating, breathing, moving and respecting your limitations. A yoga pose will expose imbalances, as well as physical and emotional blocks. Soon the tension, and sometimes fear, will release and your range of motion will in nature increase.
How does this yoga differ from other forms of yoga?
This yoga is based on intuition rather than tradition. If you think you need to go to a health club to be wonderfully fit and beautiful, think again. If you think that you need to escape to a cave in the Himalayas to find the enlightenment that yoga promises, think again. You will discover strength and energy you never knew existed.
Don't Expect Instant Results
While you will probably feel very relaxed and peaceful after your first yoga session, it can take many weeks of daily yoga practice before you begin to reap any significant health benefits. Patience is a key you must use for the real benefits of yoga to take place.
Power yoga is more than a workout it's a conscious journey of discovery. What are you waiting for if not now, then when?
What is the difference between Yoga and Pilates?
In some respects Pilates exercise is like Yoga. Both are considered mind-body methods of movement; both emphasize deep breathing and smooth, long movements that encourage your muscles to relax and lengthen. Yoga and Pilates include the following characteristics:
* Inner Mental Focus
* Concentration on muscular movements
* Synchronization of movements with breathing patterns
* Attention to form and alignment
Does power yoga incorporate meditation?
Of course. A more vigorous class is not necessarily less meditative than a slower - mellower class. The ingredients for creating a meditative state are the integrity of the teacher, and the attention the student brings to the practice.
