Yin Yoga Class is a non-heated, slow-paced style of yoga with poses, or asanas, that are held for longer periods of time—five minutes or longer per pose is typical. The postures, mostly targeting the low back and hips, are all practiced on the floor with the support of props (mats, straps and blocks) and are held for 3 to 5 minutes allowing you to reach deep into the connective tissues and the joints. This type of yoga can help you access new depths in postures, deeper ranges of motion, or an increased flow of energy. Many students find Functional Yoga to be the perfect complement and balance to their more active, yang practices (such as our Power Vinyasa).

Yiba yoga poses apply moderate stress to the connective tissues—the tendons, fascia, and ligaments—with the aim of increasing circulation in the joints and improving flexibility. Muscles account for about forty percent of the resistance against the body’s flexibility, while connective tissue accounts for about fifty percent.

A more meditative approach to yoga, Yin Yoga aims at cultivating awareness of one’s inner silence, and bringing to light a universal, interconnecting quality. Yin Yoga is a practice everyone can enjoy and also a great place for beginners to start. Students are encouraged to dress comfortably in layers and bring pillows and blankets from home for extra support.

Certified Teacher’s Assistant Training OCTOBER 9-11, 2015. Receiving physical touch can be a wonderful part of practicing yoga, as long as it is done safely and mindfully. This workshop will work with therapeutic touch as a means to provide support to students practicing yoga from the most basic touch to complex adjustments. This workshop is appropriate for someone with no experience with teaching or assisting, and can also be a learning tool for established teachers. There will be some discussion, but most of the workshop will be spent practicing these tools and techniques so you will have the opportunity to solidly cement these skills.

Certified Teacher Assistant and Adjusting Training is held the weekend of OCTOBER 9-11, 2015. Friday 6:30-10 p.m. (Anatomy 101), Saturday 11:00 p.m. – 5:00pm; Sunday 7:00am – 5:00pm (lunch on own 10:30-11:30) Cost – $175 This 3-day workshop will provide a foundation to safely provide hands-on adjustments in yoga classes. Teachers successfully completing this coursework will have earned 18 contact hours and 1.75 non-contact hours. A Unique Approach to Assisting and Adjusting Training: Hands-on Practice: Our 19.75-hour assisting and adjusting teacher training and advanced yoga studies is offered in an intensive weekend of total immersion. As with its other training, the cornerstone of the Pedretti Power Yoga LLC approach is to study assisting and adjusting not only by reading and engaging lecture and discussion, but also by practicing the adjustments over and over again.

Boundaries and Ethics: Our training includes a segment on ethics and boundaries so we as teachers can better understand our roles and impact and also to develop awareness of the different emotions that can be observed in the classroom – such as anxiety – and how assisting and adjusting can affect those emotions and feelings.

Real Students as Models: Best of all, our students will be given the opportunity to practice assisting and adjusting not only with each other, but also with PPY yoga students who have applied to be models and who will be present at certain times during the weekend. This will give registered teacher-trainers first-hand experience in learning assists and adjustments with actual yoga students representing a wide range of skills and needs.

Once you finish the training, you are eligible to begin assisting classes at Pedretti Power Yoga LLC, which is a great way to earn free classes and deepen your connection to others in the Pedretti Power Yoga LLC community.

Getting Started: Pedretti Power Yoga LLC holds Certified Teacher’s Assistant trainings twice a year. In these intensive weekend workshops you will learn to give (and experience receiving) specific hands-on adjustments and appropriate modifications for poses seen in a standard Power Vinyasa Yoga class as well as learn the principles of alignment behind each pose. We also cover different types of assists, when to use them, how to assist “in the flow”, and explore the art of compassionate touch.

  • Explore Anatomy & Alignment Principles for Assisting
  • Learn to Support & Enhance a Students Yoga Experience
  • Practice therapeutic adjustments for individual needs
  • Explore yoga philosophy relating to trust, support and letting go.

  • PLUS Crow, Side Crow, and so much MORE!

Developing steadiness & strength in the core is essential to a solid, safe yoga (asana) practice. The underlying cause of many limitations, such as pain in the lower back, shoulders, hips, slouched posture, suppressed emotions and poor digestion, is often traced back to a lack of awareness and ability to properly engage the core muscles. Learn what defines the ‘the core’ and how to apply these muscles effectively in order to achieve maximum stability in every movement/pose. Moving from your center is a foundational key when practicing yoga, enhancing balance and overall alignment. Gain a better understanding of how to utilize your core strength and ignite the central powerhouse of your body.

This workshop is open to all levels. A working knowledge of downward dog is necessary.  120 Minute Workshop Cost = $20.00 ($25 at door)

“Glideator Body Sculpt”. 60 minute class will be limited to 12 Yoga friends each class BUT guaranteed to strengthen your core muscles in a dynamic class using glider, mat work and BREATH!

The core consists not only of the muscles in the abdominal wall, but the obliques, the pelvic muscles, and the muscles that support the back and spine. A strong core can improve athletic performance and posture and can reduce back pain. Using glider, balls, bands and your own body weight as resistance, this class will help strengthen your core, sculpt your body and burn calories.

*Synthetic Socks (non cotton) or Canvas ballet slippers required* Starting September 1, 2017 adding BOSU to Class.

Hip, Hip, Hurray! It is said that we carry emotions in certain regions of the body; the hips are one such area. By devoting an entire 2 hours to warming up and opening the hips, each participant is given ample opportunity to let go of muscular tension. In addition to releasing traumas stored in the pelvic region & psoas (major hip flexor), having greater mobility and increased flexibility in the hips is the gateway to safely going deeper in backbends and forward folds. As the largest joints of the human body, the hips are a dense, congested area occupied by connective tissues, muscles, bones and don’t forget all those stored emotions.

BACKBENDING POSES – When people age they tend to contract and pull themselves in. But yoga, and especially the spinal work we do in yoga, can actually reverse the aging process. YOU are only as young as your spine is supple! Your energy system is centralized along your spine, and backbends remove blocks of energy stored there. They ignite electricity in your spine and bring your whole being to a healthier realm. Backbends warm the system, increase energy and invigorate us!

In back bending poses, it’s very important that you stay alert and conscious to what you are doing. Almost all injuries result when someone is not fully present. The good news about backbends is that each one gets easier. The final backbend may be daunting…but it is what makes the difference between walking away at the end of your yoga practice and FLYING! Allie will lead you through a combination of supine, seated and standing poses, along with some restorative hip openers to progressively go deeper and into more challenging poses in ways that are safe, fun and refreshing!  Cost $20 pre-register ($25 at the door).

Join yoga teacher Allie Pedretti and songwriter Barb Bazaldua for an interactive class unlike any other! Allie and Barb will create in the moment bringing you inspired vinyasa with live music created in the moment. Expect to laugh, cry (maybe!) and, of course, SWEAT as you move like you’ve never moved before.

PRIVATE CLASS – Standard flow class (hot yoga) with an emphasis on the foundational postures, deepending the student’s knowledge of alignment and physical condition (blocks, straps, and other props provided).

This Power Hour 60 minute hot yoga class will take you to YOUR edge – help you clarify, relax, focus, and concentrate. All levels are accomodated in this energetic and challenging class. It’s not always about physical difficulty, but the degree of quietness, gentleness and sensitivity. Make it powerful by honoring what you’re feeling and experiencing.
